Why the Internet, what it can do for you? And why you need a Web site

As of March 2000, there are 304.36 million million people online worldwide, broken as follows: Africa, 2.58 million; Asia/Pacific, 68.9 million; Europe, 83.35 million; Middle East, 1.90 million; Canada and U.S.A., 136.86 million; and South America, 10.74 million.

Estimated number of Web sites is 4,951,247 and the number of Web pages is over 1 billion.

In the Philippines, it is reported that in October 1997, there are 84,425 people accessing the Internet and that the total number of Internet users (those using email, newsgroups, telnet, file transfer protocol, and the World Wide Web) increased to 126,249 by the end of 1998 and 607,027 by year 2001. It is also estimated that World Wide Web users (those browsing Web pages) alone increased to 104,848 by the end of 1998 and will grow to 589,594 by 2001.

So, it is almost imperative, or a requirement and not just a fancy anymore, that you, and your group or company, should be online. Think of it, being online, or having a Web site, you can:

  • Establish a presence to keep people aware of your services and products.
  • Compete on both a local and world-wide scale.
  • Have your information available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Provide instant access to catalogs or other information.
  • Establish a direct relationship with customers.
  • Keep customers updated on new products and services.
  • Provide helpful information and answer to frequently asked questions.
  • Place an unlimited amount of information on the Internet.
